Nice widget... Just what I was looking for, for my site, http://www.celebrityhealthfitness.com
Only one problem, the photo does not display. Is there an adjustment I need to make?
Did you place a custom field named "featured-image" with the full URL of the image on the page that is featured? The plugin will not find the image in the post and needs to have that custom field for the image. There are other custom fields that can be used listed at http://wordpress.grandslambert.com/plugins/featured-page-widget.html.
It would be cool to get the featured page widget into a ... featured page(s) widget :)
Bear with me...
This would allow for some interesting use cases:
For example, a list of "Featured Pages" that could point to a set (parent page) of people, like the C-suite at a company. You could have a little sidebar widget that has thumbnail of the person's face (the featured image), their name (the page title), and a brief bio (the page excerpt), all in list format.
Currently we can only do one featured page (or multiples being displayed at random) -- this would be a kind of "featured page list" to call out a specific section of the web site with its subpages, kind of like a hybrid between your existing solution and the list pages function. It would display the excerpt and the images within an unordered list or set of divs.
I think currently the way to do this would be to insert the Featured Page widget multiple times into the sidebar pointing to a specific page, but this gets a bit hairy, methinks... Hm. /endbraindump
Actually, I have another plugin called the "Extended Page Lists" plugin that can list subpages, or just selected pages, in a widget or shortcode. Right now it only does text links, and doesn't allow you to order them, but it might work best to add that functionality to that plugin since it already uses the "list pages" features. I will look into this more.
Thanks GS. The images for me are the special sauce -- but I'm going to play with the Extended Page lists shortcode to see what I can do!
Hi GS,
It's a great plugin. I love it. I'm using it now. However, I'm wondering if i can replace the "Read More>>" text link with a graphical link instead? Say, "LEARN MORE" red-colored button. My site is CheapCheapTrip.com
William, support for what you want is already available in the plugin. Take a look here http://featuredpagewidget.grandslambert.com/ to see that by adding a custom field to your page named "featured-link" with the URL of the image to use will use the image instead of the text.
